Weekly Group classes

These classes focus primarily on passive search starting with Kong and  progressing to gun oil. The dogs are taught to freeze when then find the odor to indicate to their handler where it is

If your dog is already on odour, then you maybe able to join and ongoing group, please contact us to arrange.

If you are beginner but are looking to join a weekly class, please head to our Book Scentwork pages for detail of beginners courses. The last beginners course for 2024, starts 17th October.

UK Scentsport

UK Scent sport is a new organisation offering four different elements of scent work, in league one there are 5 assessment levels these are of course optional, there is no pressure to do the assessments.

1. Kong Search

Teaching the dogs to find and indicate on peices of kong rubber, league one cover: imprinting the odour, indication, searching methodically, removing handler bias, and handling skills.

2. Catnip Retrieve

Teaching the dogs to find and retrieve catnip scented items, league one cover: imprinting the odour, building a retrieve, growing independent search, discriminating scented and unscented items.

3. Scent Match

Teaching the dogs to match human scent from one they are offered to a selection of others, league one covers: building the behaviour, increasing the dogs confidence to work away from handler, indication.

The 4th element of UKSS is Trail ID which is covered within mantrailing sessions and therefore not part of our UKSS workshops. â€‹

Getting started with UKSS

In order to make scentwork accessible to all, we run UKSS a little differently.

Rather than a regular class they are run as workshops, in addition dogs are worked one at a time (resting in the car inbetween). This allows those who cannot commit to a weekly time slot, as well as dogs who don't enjoy working around others to join in the fun! Our workshop format gives you a plan to go away and work on then when you need some help or want to progress further join us for another workshop.

Any team who have not done UKSS before need to start with our Intro workshop (3.5 Hours) which covers all three elements, as an introduction. From there each element will have specific workshop (2 hours) allowing each team to work on the elements they wish too.
